Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is a Government initiative that targets additional funds for schools to use to support closing the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers, ensuring all pupils have access to high quality education.

According to research, students from deprived backgrounds underachieve compared to their non‐deprived peers for a variety of reasons. This additional funding is provided in order to support all pupils in reaching their potential. It is important to note that students who are eligible for increased Pupil Premium funding are representative of all academic abilities.

The Government has used students entitled to Free School meals as the indicator for deprivation, and have deployed a fixed amount of money to schools per students, based on the number of pupils registered for Free School meals over a rolling six-year period (“Ever 6 FSM”), details of which can be found on the Pupil Premium Strategy.

At Chetwynde, we use the funding to help ensure pupils have access to academic support and cultural enrichment opportunities which support their all round development.
